The Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción is the capital of Guatemala City and the greatest town of Central America . It has a population of two or three and a half million of habitants, located in the south valley of the whole town, with a height of 1533m.

As another cities of town, Guatemala has a special and unique style in its streets, in which the avenues are designated from north to south and each street has a number that increases, as people walk in direction west to east and north to south. As a consequence, the city is divided into zones y divided by avenues and open boulevards, filled with bushes and grass, as you might see at "Avenida de Las Americas", "Avenida La Reforma", "Boulevard Vista Hermosa", "Los Proceres" among others.

The city also has a great variety of restaurants, hotels and shopping centers; 30 galleries and museums that contain art collections of the pre-Columbian era and contemporaneous, plenty of them are located in different zones of the city.

Among the interesting places in the city, you may visit zone 1, actually denominated the “Centro Historico”. Here you can go to “Plaza de la Constitucion”, “El Palacio Nacional”, the “Catedral Metropolitana” (Cathedral) and take a brief look of how life takes place daily.

In the other hand, you might also wish to visit the “Zona Viva”, this is the modern area of the city, where you will find great hotels, restaurants, discotheques and have fun with the night entertainment.

 



 

 

By airplane: The International Airport “La Aurora”, is located in the city, concentrates all the international flights.

By Bus: Most of the companies that offer buses as pullman style have their own terminals outside the city. The second-class buses or the chicken buses are located at zones 1 and 4.
