Found at the northeast of the department of Petén , next to the border with Mexico and Belize. Within the Reserve of the Mayan Biosphere. With an extention of 45.9000 hectares. Its average annual temperature is of 22°C.
Its most characteristic image is the Topografia Kárstica with steep, rounded columns. It also has three lagoons, three swamps and the Río Azul. It also has a Forest, virgin in the most part of the Biotopo, with abundant trees such as Mahogany, cedre, chicles, pimienta and xate trees. Among its rich vegetation, guarded by the ágila arpia, where they sleep in the mysterious mayan ruins of great archaeological value in Naachtún y Dos Lagunas . And, protected among caves, there are Mayan murals which are more than a century old.
Laguna del Tigre
Located in the borough of San Andrés, in the territorial division of Petén. With an extension of 293.000 hectares. . This biotope has an extension of 293.000 hectares, its average annual temperature is 30°C, and its humidity is about 85%. The national park Laguna del Tigre is part of the Mayan Biosphere, which is the greatest in Guatemala (1.5 Million hectares).
This is the second most important humid soil biosphere in all Latin America, and constitutes one of the most important zones of water recharge of the country. This area also has three basins, where the San Pedro, Chocop, and Escondido rivers are the more notable rivers. There are also lagoons, reefs, and tropical pools, which count for more than 300 aquatic elements

San Miguel La Palotada
*San Miguel La Palotada: The "San Miguel Palotada -El Zotz" biotope is located 65 kms. from the city of Flores. The average annual temperature is 26°C, with an average humidity percentage of 76.55%. You may be able to enjoy a flat view with abundant vegetation, which is always green, and where trees such as xate, pimienta, and chicle can be found. You will also find lakes and lagoons such as El Guineo, El Palmar, etc., swamps (La Cumbre, Pucté, etc.), and areas which are likely to flood. amidst the vegetation, there are also Mayan structures or temples that are still intact. Let yourself go with the great diversity of the fauna in the area: jaguars, panthers, and other felines, wild boars, wild pigs, cojolita, sparrow hawks, mountain goats, wild turkeys, howling monkeys, spider monkeys, etc. If you could wait until twilight, you might witness a beautiful sight—millions of bats awakening and flying out of the mountains' rocks.
Mario Dary Rivera o del Quetzal
*Mario Dary Rivera o del Quetzal: "Lic. Mario Dary Rivera's biotope" or "Biotopo del Quetzal" [Quetzal's Biotope] is located in the territorial division of Baja Verapaz. This biotope has an approximate surface of 1.017 hectares, and it protects and conserves the habitat of the Quetzal. The average annual temperature is 16°C, with a humidity percentage between 80% and 100%. You can travel through the forests of this biotope by two trails: "Sendero de los Helechos" [Ferns' Trail] 2 kilometers length and "Sendero de los Musgos" [Mosses' trail] 4 kilometers length. Here you can camp, park, bathe in natural cold lagoons, find stores, bathrooms, cafeterias, ranchos with tables, and bar-b-Q pits, a shelter, etc. This biotope is a land filled with mountains that can reach 2.300 meters in height, numerous waterfalls, and small streams with crystal-clear water, and a dense-cloudy forest where you can find 50 species of trees such as (pine tree, encino, cypress, eucalyptus, giant fern, etc.), some of which reach up to 40 meters , and some have even been known to reach 450 years of age. You will also see lichens, mosses, mushrooms, orchids, gallitos, bromeliaceous, and other plants and epiphytics. Between the stems and leaves, on the humid soil, or on the clean roofs of the trees, you will always find animal life. 58 species of animals have been identified to live in this region; among them are cayayas, pito reales, guardabarrancos, tucanes esmeralda, lagartijas, squirrels, rabbits, mice, pizotes, zorros, zaraguates, howling monkeys, snakes, salamanders, etc. Furthermore, in the early morning you can see the majestic quetzal take flight in its natural habitat.

Cerro Cahuí - El Remate
Cerro Cahuí - El Remate: This biotope is located in the northern shores of Lago Petén Itzá, on a hill, 32 kms from Flores. This biotope has an extension of 700 hectares. Due to its location, it has unique ecological features. This biotope is a tropical humid jungle, with an average temperature of about 29.3°C. You can visit this location by two terrestrial trails, and while you travel on these trails it's possible to find toucans and monkeys, since this biotope is the home of small mammals and birds particular to the region of Petén. On sunny days, you may also enjoy the company of thousands of multicolored butterflies. There are more than 50 different species of butterflies in Cerro Cahuí. There are also two viewpoints where you may see Lake Petén Itzá in its entirety, and watch the diversity of birds in the area.
Chocón Machacas
Chocón Machacas: This biotope is located on the Río Dulce's shore, on the north area of “El Golfete”, in the territorial division of Izabal. This biotope has an extension of 6.245 hectares, and its average temperature is 26°C. The only means of transportation to this area is by boat from Río Dulce, Livingston, and Puerto Barrios. Enjoy the fascinating trip from Río Dulce and once you reach El Golfete, where the entrance is located, prepare yourself for new experiences with the nature surrounding you. This biotope has tourist services, such as a museum, information, camping, medical aid, bathroom area, etc. The biotope is an aquatic ecosystem with rivers, lakes, channels, on a plain region capable of flooding. There are three possible trails you can follow: one by land, and two by water. From either of them you may be able to see the tropical and flooded forests, swamps, and abundant aquatic flora. Observe the waters to witness of the otters and manatees play, two of the animals protected in this zone. You will also find alligators, tigers, tapirs, deer, toucans, and other tropical birds in this biotope.
